Original Creation

1st vs 2nd attempt at an Apache

HappyLittleCloud 18 Nov 2021

Have a friend who asked me to paint an Apache in Alaska for her. Did a tiny practice to see how to try and put one in a mountain scene, and it looked so bad. So I tried again, roughed out the shape with a knife, scraped off the thick mountain paint inside it's boundaries, and let it dry a couple days. I was able to do a much better job! Still don't know how to make the tail rotor look like it's spinning but not look like a mess as it is here. So any advice on that welcomed!!!

This is excellent! The Apache in the large painting is amazing and much improved over the tiny version. I think the tail rotor motion looks pretty good (and it probably looks even better in person) but I have never attempted something like that, so I have no advice for you in that regard. I think your friend will be extremely pleased with this painting. Very nice work!

Great painting! Helicopter looks awesome! I have never done anything to show rotation. But what you did looks like there is motion.

I had idea to paint blades let them fully dry and then with transparent glaze to create the circle on top to mimic rotation. This would allow to erase unsuccessful attempts as many times as needed with a soft towel dipped in linseed oil.
