Original Creation

Rose in vase

LJMpaintings 14 May 2020

I'm not as happy with this one. I think that it's because my vase is crooked.. I also forgot to put the leaves on so I had to add it after.

Pencils

Wow! Is it just pencil ? Or charcoal too?

This is very different from previous two. I see more contrast here. It seems that base of that vase is in the photo.

I noticed that too. I think this is my camera, it is all pencil but I did use a darker pencil (4HB) for shading and yet I don't see this drastic change in real time. Maybe my camera picks this pencil up more?!.

And yes ..that was the base of the vase. :)

Sorry -- it was a 4B

Got it! Very interesting, I think probably paper has more texture and under this angle no reflections and glare.
I noticed that it is difficult to take a good picture of pencil drawing. It always has glare with that paper I use.
By the way I got 6B pencil today. Ready for little adventure inspired by your idea of home things. I found kitchen things that could turn to be interesting drawing challenge.

I am aiming for old metal and not sure how to do the highlights yet.

Do you set light for the object you draw? Can you give an advice? I see some highlights on the vase base on the photo, but seems like vase has been moved already.

I sit at my kitchen table and the natural light comes in from my sliding door., so the light's angle is from the side.To me natural light is best...Id say before you start, study how the lighting looks on your object... move it around till you see what you want .. Grab a lamp if needed.
Good luck and have fun... 6B will be very dark ..go gentle to start with the after shading.
Excited to see your posting.
