This was done from a photo by request of a friend for a gift. I can only paint a few hours at a time, so it took a few days. Great practice for me. I took a few liberties to reduce complexity. I worked hard to scale the photo onto the canvas and deal with all the varieties of value and color, but it was fun to do! Used Bob Ross techniques and tools. Oils on 16x20 canvas panel. The dog's name 'Lua' is portugese for 'Moon'.
It turned out really good. The colours are lovely and that's an interesting pile of logs there on the left. The size and position of Lua gives scale to the rest of the scene, and I really like that quiet whispy tree towards the back. We used to have an Italian dog next door called Luna (moon) and another one called Poopa which the owner said means little doll, I think he meant puppet. No way you would name an English dog poopa, I had to laugh when I imagined calling it's name while out walking😂
I'm sure your friend will love this painting.
