Saw a photo of this goofy little frog and thought he would be a super cute subject to paint. I stupidly painted the background almost the exact same shade of green as the frog making him blend in. I had to glaze blue over it to correct this so it isn’t as smooth as I would like. Oops. I seem to spend a lot of time correcting painting mistakes because I don’t think things through before starting 😅

Nice subject matter for this. Amazing colours on this little frog. Nobody learned anything without making a mistake or two ;)
Lilikins, i think you did awesome with the frog and colors. That glaze of blue worked well. But it also worked in the way to unite background and the main subject and make the painting whole. your darker background works better than the reference photo to bring the frog forward.
Thank you! He was my attempt at a quick weekend painting as a palate cleanser after spending over a month on the previous dog portrait. I was worried that changing the color of the stem and background would make it look too cartoony but in the end I wanted the contrast to make him stand out more since he’s the star.
