This was done from a photo in our local newspaper. Added the pines in front to give it a little distance.

That would be great to see. I haven't tried to paint from a photo yet, but I have heard that it can be rather hard, and some photos just don't translate to a painting well. Yours looks fantastic. I have been thinking about trying a few from my Scotland trip last year.

The sky was a bit more than I was ready to tackle but the overall photo was something I thought I could use. I thought the pines were much more interesting than the trees in the photo. Not an exact copy but it was a nice guide to start from.
I think the changes you made are great! I have heard many artists say that painting from a photograph can be very frustrating because they can't make it look exactly the same, so congrats on using it as a starting point and making your painting your own!
