Original Creation

Lonely Whale

MHK 16 Nov 2023

This painting was inspired by a recent trip with the artist Wyland. He had a fundraiser for his charity, and I was fortunate enough to sit right next to him. we spent the day whale watching, and then a fundraiser. I commissioned a piece that he was kind enough to paint for me, and this is what inspired this painting. I hope I didn’t butcher it to much 😀. It’s tricky taking pictures after you use liquid clear the glare seems to get in the way. any recommendations?

Yes! I hate taking pictures with liquid clear too. My wife has a nifty real 35mm camera with a gray filter on it. She takes the pictures for me when I use liquid clear (or liquid black for that matter). The gray filter reduces the glare. They get a little dark, but you can use art studio to brighten them back up without the glare.

I looooove whales. They are my fav animals. So this painting speaks volume to me. Great work Michael!

It is tricky to take pix when a painting is just finished (still wet) and/or have liquid clear on it. I make sure the lighting hits indirectly on it, meaning I make it bounce on the diagonal forward wall (right or left corners or both) in front of me. So, the light disperses evenly and more softly. I never have it from directly above or from behind me. The glare gets way too much then. After taking the pic, if it's too dark, enhance the brightness with your phone picture settings.
