This is the largest painting I've ever done 36" x 48" ( I'm a long way from done) but before I past the point of no return I want some opinions. I could stick with the sketch like theme ( see sketch upper right) or I was considering adding the traditional Serengetti sky ( white, yellow & orange) and maybe throw in a Acacia tree.
What do you think???
Remember painting is about lion, not about background. If you think about dark value background the lion will stand out a lot. Dont be afraid of dark value on the lion it will add dimension to him.
Just example: you may select color of the lion for background but neutralized and darkened quite a lot (through brown or blue or both together).

MHK this absolutely wonderful idea to paint this mighty lion! All the best with the progress and think what you will like most when you go ahead with painting.

Some scenery would really give value to this, as long as it is not overwhelming/ Think Tom, with his almost desolate paintings lately. It would bring out the lion much better!
