Alvin York (1887 - 1964) was a U.S. Army soldier who became famous for his heroic actions during World War I. Born in 1887 in Tennessee, he initially sought to avoid combat due to his pacifist beliefs but served with distinction.
On October 8, 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, York led a small group in capturing 132 Germans and destroying multiple machine gun positions, later earning him the Medal of Honor. He's a celebrated figure in American history.
