Charles Darwin (1809–1882) was an English naturalist, geologist, and biologist and also one of the influential figures in science. His theory that all species of life have descended from a common ancestor is now generally accepted and considered a fundamental scientific concept. It provided a unifying explanation for the diversity of life and remains the cornerstone of modern biology.
His observations during the voyage of the HMS Beagle and years of his research provided evidence that all species evolve over time, shaping modern biology and changing how people views its place in nature. His ideas challenged traditional beliefs about creation, reshaping scientific thought, influencing not only biology, philosophy, anthropology, and understanding of humanity’s place in the world.
