Victory Day is a holiday commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, at the end of World War II. It's celebrated on May 9th, in former countries of the Soviet Union, to mark the surrender of German forces. It honors those heroes who fought in the war, often with military parades, fireworks, and ceremonies.
The Russian Federation has officially recognized it since the formation in 1991 and considers it a non-labor holiday even if it falls on a weekend. Victory Day is often celebrated in the Red Square in Moscow.
