The European Court of Human Rights is an international court of Europe which interprets the European Convention on Human Rights. The court is considered the most effective international human rights court in the world. It also faced challenges with verdicts not implemented by the contracting parties.
"Tour de Strasbourg" was a protest cycling action by Serbian students, traveling from Novi Sad to Strasbourg, where the Council of Europe is based. Founded in 1949, it aims to protect human rights, democracy and the rule of law. It all began with the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse, which left 16 people dead. This wasn’t just an accident, it was a result of government corruption and negligence.
On April 3rd, 2025, students went on a journey to Strasbourg to deliver a letter to the EU institutions. The goal was to raise awareness about the protests in Serbia around Europe. On their way, they were greeted by people from European cities such as Budapest, Bratislava and Vienna, in which many people from the Serbian diaspora live. Eventually, on April 15th, students arrived in Strasbourg as planned.
Students delivered the evidence of election fraud and human rights violations. Aftermath included increased international attention, a moral boost for Serbian protests, and growing pressure on the government. Despite attempts by officials to downplay it, it became a symbol of youth-led resistance and peaceful defiance.
Another strong work with a great story. 👍
