Franz Kafka (1883 – 1924) was a German-speaking Bohemian novelist and story writer from Prague, whose works profoundly influenced modern literature. His writing, marked by themes of alienation, existential anxiety, and the oppressive nature of authority, portrays those caught in nightmarish bureaucratic systems.
The term Kafkaesque entered the lexicon and describes situations similar to those depicted in his writings, describing illogical and oppressive. Most of his work was published posthumously, despite his wish for it to be destroyed.
