MilanC 27 Jun 2025

George Orwell (1903 – 1950) was an English critic, essayist, journalist, novelist and poet. His works are marked by a opposition to totalitarianism, political oppression, and social injustice. His works also combined sharp political insight with clear and direct prose. He died in 1950 from tuberculosis, but his ideas and warnings about authoritarianism and propaganda still remain highly relevant today.

From his experiences, he served in the Spanish Civil War, where he witnessed the dangers of political extremism, and his struggles with poverty, deeply shaped his views. His works often explore themes of truth, freedom, class, and power, written in a style known for its clarity, honesty, and social critique.

Awesome!

His real name was Eric Blair, and you are quite right, his work turned out to be extremely relevant. Really like the way you painted his jacket.

Yes, that's true, but still, everyone mostly knows him as George Orwell.

Another strong portrait
