Josip Broz Tito (1892 - 1980) was a Yugoslav revolutionary and statesman who was the leader of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1945 until his death in 1980. He played a major role in the Partisan resistance against Axis occupation during World War II and later established Yugoslavia as a non-aligned state.
He was known for his independent stance in Cold War politics, fostering a unique brand of socialism, maintaining stability until his passing. Later, he served as its prime minister from 1945 to 1963, and president from 1953 until his death in 1980.
