"ЈУТРИЋ, КАФИЦА, ЦИГАРИЦА, БЛОКАДИЦА"

MilanC 06 Jul 2025

This is a satirical phrase from the anti-corruption protests in Serbia, caused by the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse, which killed 16 people. It describes the usual morning at the blockade, usually with a cup of coffee and cigarettes. This phrase became popular when the president of the Serbian National Assembly, Ana Brnabić, uttered the phrase during the news interview.

Another one of her phrases which became popular is "Ko se lača mati". She said it during one of the rallies, held by president, Aleksandar Vučić. When she was busy talking to the reporters, she said: "Ko se mača lati, od mača će i poginuti." (English: "Who takes up the sword, perishes by the sword."). However, she made a mistake during her speech and said "Ko se lača mati" instead.

This soon became a meme across Serbian social media, where people mock her error with ironic commentary, remixes, and jokes. Now, this is a symbol of political absurdity and a broader critique of her rhetoric. It shows how language blunders in politics can go viral and take on a life of their own.

What does her version mean?

You did with pencil and pastels? Nice!

Although it sounds like it should mean something, but in reality, it doesn't mean anything. That's because it doesn't follow standard grammar or idiomatic logic in Serbian language. It makes no clear sense, and that’s why it became popular.

Yes, I painted it on A3 format paper with crayons, wooden colors, and some pencils.
