In November 2024, a series of anti-corruption protests began in Serbia, following the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse, which killed 16 people. Since then, students demanded accountability for government corruption and negligence. They led to significant repercussions, including the resignations of some officials.
One of the slogans has been "Korupcija ubija" (English: "Corruption kills"), and the protest symbol was the red handprint, referring to how 16 people died because of corruption. Another slogan which refers to the authorities and ruling politicians is "Krvave su vam ruke" (English: "Your hands are bloody").
Various banners could be seen during the protests, which mention members of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, including the President, Aleksandar Vučić. Serbian flags, and other city flags, like university and faculty flags, are common.
Some slang terms include "Ćaci", which originates from the graffiti "Ćaci u školu" (English: "Ćaci to school"), which was the attempt by SNS to mock students, but it backfired due to the illiteracy. Later, a group of students known as "Students 2.0", formed a camp called "Ćacilend" in Pioneers Park in Belgrade. It later became a gathering place for the supporters of the ruling SNS party.
Another slang term, originating from Reddit, is "Pumpaj" (English: "Pump it"), that means to keep increasing the pressure, and it means to pump a healthier society. Another similar phrase is "Dinstaj" (English: "To simmer"), also became popular.
