Laza Kostić (1841–1910) was a Serbian Romantic poet, writer, and intellectual, who's known for his passionate philosophical poetry. He's considered one of the greatest figures in Serbian literature. His works often explores love, destiny, and the human soul. He was also an essayist, translator, and advocate for Serbian culture.
He promoted the study of English literature and became one of the first to begin the systematic translation of Shakespeare's works into the Serbian language. He also left a lasting mark on Serbian literature, education and culture.
