"Who's Singin’ Over There?" is a 1980 Yugoslav black comedy. Set on April 5th, 1941, the day before the Nazi invasion of Yugoslavia, the film follows a group of quirky passengers on a rundown bus traveling to Belgrade. Through satirical humor and tragic undertones, the film explores themes of social divisions and impending doom. It is considered one of the greatest Yugoslav films ever made.
The song "To Belgrade" (Serbian: "Za Beograd") is a notable song from the movie and was frequently covered by various artists. Today, the song is even associated with the current situation in Serbia, with many protests against corruption. On this day (March 15th, 2025), one of the biggest protests in Serbia is planned in Belgrade, with thousands of students coming from various cities.
