Novak Đoković

MilanC 24 May 2025

Novak Đoković (1987) is a Serbian professional tennis player, who's known as one of the greatest of all time. He's also a supporter of the ongoing protests in Serbia, led by students against the Serbian authorities, who demand accountability for the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse, which left 16 people dead. Here are several times he supported the students:

In January 2025, during the Australian Open, he condemned the violence against students, stating that his support goes to them, and all those who own the future of Serbia. Also, after winning the match, he wrote: "For Sonja" (Serbian: "Za Sonju"), referring to Sonja Ponjavić (2005), a student who was injured after being hit by car during a 15-minute blockade in Belgrade on January 16th.

In February 2025, he was wearing a hoodie reading "Students are champions" at a basketball game in Belgrade, showing his support for the students. In March 2025, after the unfortunate death of Vukašin Crnčević (2006 - 2025), who later became the 16th victim of the tragedy, he wrote: “Prayers for 16” (Serbian: "Molitve za 16"), after his victory over Rinky Hijikata (2001) in the 2nd round of the Miami Open.
