Petrovaradin Fortress, is a fortress in the town of Petrovaradin, as part of the City of Novi Sad, Serbia. The fortress is located on the Danube river. The cornerstone of the present-day fortress was laid on October 18th, 1692. It's known for its strategic importance, underground tunnels, and panoramic views of the river and city. Now, it stands as a cultural and historical landmark, known for hosting the EXIT festival.
The underground tunnels were built in the XVIII century for defense. The fortress includes mine galleries, communication passages, and storage rooms, making it an advanced military engineering of the time. The fortress served various military purposes and was never conquered in battle.
