Svetozar Marković (1846 – 1875) was a Serbian political thinker, writer, and socialist reformer. He played a key role in introducing socialist and populist ideas to Serbia, advocating for agrarian reform, workers' rights, and a decentralized, democratic society. He was influenced by Russian and Western socialist thought and opposed the autocratic rule of the Serbian monarchy.
His writings and activism laid the foundation for socialist movements in Serbia and the broader Balkans. Despite his early death at 29, his ideas remained influential in Serbian political discourse.
