Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who's one of the influential figures in the history of Western art. In just a decade, he created approximately 2,100 artworks, including around 860 paintings. His work is known for bold colors and dramatic brushwork. His work also contributed to the rise of expressionism in modern art.
He attracted critical artistic attention in the last year of his life, and gained critical and commercial success in the following decades, and became a lasting icon of the romantic ideal of the tortured artist. His Museum in Amsterdam has one of the largest collections of his paintings and drawings in the world.
