Original Creation

Unknown Bill Alexander piece

PapaD 27 Jun 2022

18 x 25 canvas piece affixed to board. Colors were B, W, R, Y, and Bl only. This painting was a challenge to me. The small size of the mountains while attempting use of Bill's method of applying highlights which are short strokes. Much harder for me to get the paint to break in such confined spaces. There are a lot of layers to this piece. I tried to plan it in such a way as to avoid creating multiple layers. Even when avoided, the nature of the canvas pad versus a stretched caused a different reaction for me when using the knife, and application of the birch trunks was much more difficult (and in my view unsuccessful). His fir trees are much more subtle than typical evergreens. Once it tacks up a bit more, there will be tweaks applied and I can only assume, that missing items are found and placed. It is like playing Where is Waldo which, of course, is fun as was this.

Really beautiful! Love all the splashes of color! Mountains, trees and water are terrific!

Thank you!

Lots of bright colors and I like the red stuff floating on the water!

Thank you

I agree! I love the vibrant colors!

I think the mountains are great, I am waiting for delivery of my first canvas boards so will watch out for the difference when working with the knife. I scanned Bill's You Tube to tried and find this one and wasn't successful but it did make we want to do another Bill session! So thanks for reminding me to have another go at "Firing it in!"

rah, the material was a canvas pad taped to a wooden backing, not a canvas panel. The piece was actually a screen grab from the YouTube video tribute to Bill's life. I grabbed 9 or 10 works and saved the stills.

Ah OK, I'll try and search for the video I am sue it will be interesting. Thanks.

It was a good story and quite touching as well
