Hi Helen..Thanks for your gracious critique as always..Ya,give it a try..I'm partial to boats..My family on my mom's side were all fishermen by trade.I have owned a few power boats so I love including them in my paintings,Cheers,P
The clouds are once again great my friend. Great work👍🏼🇩🇪🔪
Grazie Dirk!
Soooo good! Oh I wish I could paint clouds like this! Excellent job-
Hey man, thanks for sharing the painting—those clouds and the water color transitions are absolutely beautiful. The whole scene has a great atmosphere. One small thing that stood out to me is the boat—it looks like it’s floating above the water just a bit rather than sitting in it. Totally an easy fix, and I’ve had to work through this same thing before. Here are a few tricks that might help ground it better:
1. Shadow under the hull: Add a subtle horizontal shadow directly beneath the boat, following the curve of the hull. Use a darker blue-green glaze and feather it out into the surrounding water to create a natural transition.
2. Reflections: Lightly mirror the underside of the boat in the water with soft, vertical strokes. Use a muted version of the hull color and blend gently—this gives it a sense of weight and presence in the scene.
3. Ripple effects: Break up the water around the base of the boat with ripple marks or soft lapping highlights. That interaction between the boat and water is what makes it look “seated.”
4. Anchor point detail: Where the ropes enter the water, you could add tiny disturbances—ripples or darkened rings—as if they’re tugging against the boat.
5. Stern shading: Deepen the water tone right under the back of the boat. A touch of shadow there adds visual weight and helps push it downward into the water.
thanks for the critique guys.I hear you rtp. There are some places in Sicily that the water is is glassy clear and the boats seem like they are above the water line.So I did it to mimic those photos.Grazie and happy painting!

Looking good P. Your clouds are fabulous. I haven't tried painting a boat yet but it's on my list.
