I am taking some time to do some value studies. I think my work still needs help in that area. This is Afternoon Tea by Buck Paulson from the Magic of Oil Painting. I struggled with the teapot and actually painted it black, let it dry, and re-painted it. Its somewhat better but still not 100%. There's a good chance that I'll go back in with some glazes, see if I can go from pewter to silver.
Not a still live and tea fan but your teapot is very nice!
Landscape is my main focus (always). But, I want to be able to make a 'competent' portrait and a decent looking still. So I decided to do these studies and hopefully I can take the best one and hang it on the wall - sort of as a portfolio.

Yes.Painting black is a great idea.dark base and layers of golden hues..I have done that a few times with still life paintings.Hreat job!
