My first attempt at the grandeur of summer

Sally 28 Jun 2022

This is my first attempt painting by myself without an instructor, except for Bob Ross on video! I was doing the grandeur of Summer. This was particularly challenging because I was using oil paints that were over 20 years old. I bought them when I was pregnant but quickly learned that you should not paint with oil paints when you're pregnant. So they sat for 20 years until now all the kids are old enough that they can take care of themselves in the house while I paint!
I did not have any liquid White, so I had to make my own with titanium white and linseed oil. I also had to thin down almost every color with additional linseed oil, so it was quite challenging!

Also, the picture is sort of shiny because I had taken this when it was still wet.

Nice job!

Thank you! I was pleasantly surprised with this one especially being my first ever. Thank you Bob Ross!

Great first piece, there are a lot of techniques to try in this tutorial and you have achieved nice depth through using value and perspective. Especially impressed as you use old oil paints.

Thank you rah. Yes, those paints were like bird poop and I hurt my hands trying to squeeze some of them out they were so hard!
