Original Creation

Sea queen

Sunnylady 27 Dec 2021

Painting started as tutorial with D.Roza; but when I realized I cannot follow due to not understanding the perspective and struggled with value chart a lot, I continued on my own. So this was a challenge. It took me 3 days to complete. Overall it took about 12 hours. Size is quite big 60*70cm.
I am not satisfied with the outcome, and this is the best I could do. This one was a challenge that I could not overcome. I am glad I attempted though :)

Please tell me the weakest point in this painting.

Amazing!

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

It's like you're sitting in a boat and that wave's only 20 meters away!!

Very daring canvas size for this creation dear, that water is SO real I have wet feet looking at it!

I would suggest the reason you aren't happy with it Sunny is because you have been looking at it so long .....it's really good (honest)

@Adam - thanks

@Voy - thank you Voy! I appreciate your kind words and support! This challenge drove me crazy, my worst critic (my husband and I thought the worst lives in my head, oh boy, I was wrong) said it looks like a jelly :) but anyway I decided to post it here to see if other people can help to figure out the weakest point and may be share few links on improving water. I stopped when I realized that no matter what I do is not improving the painting. Meaning I am not satisfied with structural component of this one.

I am actually happy to hear it feels like a wave! Thank you.

@tel - thank you so much. I had this thought for a moment and even debated if I need to turn it upside down for some time. I did not do so… but it is a good lesson for myself to do what my gut tells when I paint. I think this would break my unhappiness with it into manageable parts. Another idea that I had this morning that I had to use bigger brush, probably flat 1 inch would give me a bit freedom and I would have given more movement to the water.

It's really beautiful. It drew me in, I love, LOVE the details, the light, the waves, the tilted horizon... This is really inspiring, and I sincerely thank you for sharing!

@shadowscarsdragon. Thank you so very much for your wonderful words! I am honored to read that you felt inspired looking at the painting.
