Original Creation

Study work. Fall.

Sunnylady 24 Apr 2020

This is made on yellow primed MDF. Acrylic paint is from hardware store and was sitting in the storage for a long time. As I ran out of gesso to cover this size I started thinking how I can continue painting. I don't know how long it will survive, but I hope for few years to keep my parents happy. If you attempt for serious work don't do it this way.
This is also the painting where I messed up the pine tree, removed it, destroyed half of the painting, repainted the sky, forest, river, grass at foreground. And painted this pine tree back, but somehow it became less evergreen. :)
Please enjoy and let me know your thoughts.

It's a great work. Sky,misty background and gorgeous trees.
You have a great talent to be able to do such a work even though you have not been so long since I started painting.

Thank you Jin! I honestly do not believe that talent will let any person to be successful and grow. There is a factor of hard work as well.
I always liked painting since 15 or 16. But then it stopped when in the University as there were many other things to do. I always wanted to come back to painting, when work started I was doing photography for almost 8 years, and I enjoyed it a lot. But I always realized it was a substitute. In 2015 I did my first step back into the painting with acrylics. I was always unsatisfied with my works. Till I got some lagguage of paintings and many museums worldwide. And then at some point it clicked that I could enjoy my final product. Not always of course, but when i arrange little gallery in one of the bedrooms I started talking to my husband about my works and after visiting Van Gogh museum he convinced me to invest in oil paints. Since then it was different experience. I started seeing benefits of the challenging acrylic paints and seldom I was taking classes to paint acrylic painting. But I was more picky what to select. Now I do oils only as my acrylic paints are far away from me and continue learning the process and invest my time in painting. There are still many things to learn about composition and value and color mixing. So it is long way forward that I do not intend to give up as painting makes me happy.

amazing ... i just love it .. thank you for sharing it

David thanks!

You never seize to dazzle me Sunnyday! That oh so gentle sky lighting, that slow river with its reflections but specially the leaves on the trees …. my applauds to you!!

And so much like that 'painting makes you happy'!!

Bob Ross used to say this when he was alive. I head many people said that I can't draw a picture because I don't have the talent like you. What is talent?
You like painting and if you can continue to do it is a talent.

Voy, thank you! The leaves were most difficult to paint. I used 3 different brush sizes to paint trees and create variety of brush strokes. Also I failed at mixing colors from the limited palette and just used cadmium orange with various combinations of red, green, brown to make colors more complex. At some point I finally realized I did not have enough dark to make leaves stand out. I was very proud of this realization.

Voy, special question to you. If you are on Mercury observing sunset/sunrise what would be color of the sky?

Jin, yes I agree. I hear that often people say they are not talented to start . But there is solution there. You have to push yourself, but if it does not work ask someone to push you. This is like driving a car, it is scary in the beginning and quite stressful, but then it becomes easier and easier, then one day it will be enjoyable even to drive 1000 miles. :)

Dear Sunnylady, Mercury has no atmosphere like Earth. It has an exosphere and that one is mostly filled with particles from the planet's surface, due to the continous fast-moving winds on the surface. Due to the proximity of the sun, Mercury is extreme hot during the day and extreme cold at night.

For something different … I observed Mercury only three times in my life since that planet is only visible some 60 days a year (from where I live) and needs a clear horizon and very clear weather. It's located near the sun so you can only spot it for a very short time, right after sunset. It is also so tiny, it is easily mistaken for a star or a distant airplane.
Good luck!!

So, in short … there would be no blue in the sky, no clouds, mostly grey colours against a dark starry background, counting also in of course the influence of the very severe sunlight if you want a day or a night scene.!

I was thinking too that sky would be grayish. Thanks for your help!

This is EXTRAORDINARY work. Your colors are awesome!!!!!! What a fantastic painting

@Tom0779- thank you very much! In the reality sky is even better than photo can do.

@MHK, thank you very much. I am very glad to hear all this positive feedback from the community members. It is best inspiration to hear kind words about the work!

Colors here are complex: greens are overall a challenge. I used PG and mixed it with various AC, BS, BU, PB, Cad.Red, Cad.Or, TW and Cad.Yellow. This creates variety of greens and adds to volume.

You mixed & blended them perfectly. so very real-great job!!

Thank you MHK! I think I like it quite a lot too even there were a lot of challenges.

I love the lighting on this painting. The warmth of the color choices combined with the lovely sense of distance, and deliberate, honest brushwork make this painting stand out. Well done, as usual!

Thank you for you nice feedback Dracula. Brush strokes here turn out to be more free than in the previous paintings. You know what changed: I deliberately thought this was a draft and study work , even I had to submit it for assessment, also I paint now on whatever I find as only 2 canvas left and they are huge size. This releases me from the stress of that canvases are for better things. Especially when they are so difficult to find.
This helped me to loosen up (I did not spoil canvas. Yes! ) and it is the final painting, I will not be redoing it. I hope it will leave for couple of years.

This is exquisite. What warmth all around. Beautifully done!

@parksd02 Thank you very much for your kind words!
