Original Creation

Texan landscape #2. Study after Julian Onderdonk.

Sunnylady 13 Apr 2020

This is repeat version of the first painting where I tried to fix my mistakes. It looks uglier than the first one.
Size 45 by 60 cm, on primed MDF. I am running out of canvas with this worldwide quarantine.

I think the extra contrast, dimension, and color depth on the main tree helps focus the viewer's attention in this version. Also, I think the foliage texture in the foreground left is somewhat more naturalistic here. Nicely done!

Dracula. Thanks a lot for your thoughtful comment. I will check at day light what I did to make that bush more realistic.
Tree is indeed brighter. And has dark and light and middle tones. Thanks for noticing. Value chart is wider in this tree.
I think I just realized what my problem is. Since this is repeat I also repeated the same mistake made. I did not select my focal point consciously that's why my attention is so spread that I don't know where to stop my mind from wondering on these two paintings.

I did this one with liquid white and it took 4 hours only. I think this explains quite well why entire thing is lighter.
Also different blues for the sky and almost no contrast but I want more contrast in the sky.

Thanks a lot for driving me to the thought about focal point!

Real nice upgraded version! The extra light did the trick, as well as the more detailed tree!

Thank you Voy! I installed 6500K LED light bulbs and now I can paint during the evening time. I think those bulbs produce a nice light. Ra is also more than 80 as per the manufacturer. I think it is quite close to to be true as painting does not change (almost) at daylight and artificial light.
I need to be very careful for my next painting selection... two canvas left only. I think if i give it few extra thoughts I'll find the subject to paint.

That's quite some light you have installed there! I painted mostly by Northern light (my study is oriented to the North) and some additional LED- lightning cornerwise, so that I don't have any reflection on the canvas.
Concerning the canvasses, I really would consider buying some online if you're in Tewas momentarely. Even with (some) lesser quality, you would be able to paint and probably use them for experimental projects. That's what I mostly do with budget canvasses.
Happy painting dear!!

I love this painting as well as the original version you did. They are two of my favorite paintings on this whole site. It just has a lovely atmosphere that reminds me of childlike innocence. Gorgeous!

Thank you Titanium Huwhite. Please enjoy while it wakes all the positive emotions.
