Original Creation

Winter landscape after Julius von Klever

Sunnylady 22 Dec 2020

Made with online tutorial from Tatyana Zubova, not an oil though. Had quite a struggle. Color complexity here is well above my other gouache works.

Gouache on paper, 20 by 28 cm.

That sky is a great achievement! How you captured light and dark in harmony really brightens this one up Sunnylady!

Thank you Voy! clouds were the messy mess. Also i was blind when i bought white gouache and it turned that is zink-white and does not give a coverage like titanium white.
In fact I think value in the sky could be darker to make sun/or moon shine better. If you take a look at the sun and sky behind in black and white you will see a mistake as sun has darker value than the sky behind. I did not think about it when I was at the sky stage as I was rushing to catch-up with the instructor. If i stopped for a moment I hope I would think about that to get lighter than the sky is to only to use pure white outside of the tube, which is wrong as sun/moon are not totally white. This is a lesson for me.

Wow wow wow, love everything about this, that sky and those snow heavy trees, very nice 😁

Thank you Nivek! I started with a big brush for the sky and it gave incredibly interesting texture. I partially realized that initial value of the sky was too light and tried to darken (not enough) but that darker blue addition gave even more interesting texture.

I have a struggle in my mind from one side I want to paint with a lot of texture and brushstrokes visible, but from the other side I want smooth technique. I cannot see solution to this dilemma. So I am still searching myself in painting.

I showed Benji, he said " thats pretty cool" praise indeed from a 12 year old!!!

Please say to Bennji - thanks a lot!

A very beautiful painting! I love the snow on the trees!

Thanks Brooke Bowling! This tree was the main reason why I joined to paint this one. This tree is quite 3D due to the heavy snow on lower brunches that bend toward the viewer. Something different from Bob’s style a bit.

This one reminds me of a Christmas card scene. Beautiful.
