My very first still life. I intentionally kept the subject simple, since I tend to overreach with my modest skills. :P
I tried different things here: I started with imprimatura using acrylics (burnt sienna) to define some levels. That was quite challenging itself, as the acrylics dry so fast. Short summary- you cover the canvas with thinned down paint, and then you wipe out the highlights. Can be done both in acrylics or oils, difference is the drying time.
After it had dried, I painted over it with oils. I'm new to shading, mixing on the pallette, but I think I did alright. The lighting is at a pretty harsh angle, and the shadow might be a tad too short for that angle. But I didn't have a model, and I'm new to light and shadows, you usually just paint highlights in Bob's style. :)
Overall I'm pretty happy with this cute little painting!
It is cute. Good job
Thank you for the kind words. I will try the "paint what you see" method next time!

A bit tricky doing your first vase, the next one will hopefully be easier. It is a cute vase and you did well especially with the quick drying acrylic. I think if you get yourself a model it will help a lot. Felix gave me some good advice on glass vase painting, he said "paint what you see, not what you think you know".
