Original Creation

Into The Forest

Tarthur 25 Jun 2026

This was based on a recent video by Alexander Art with Tom Anderson. It's based in something Bill Alexander did early on. I fell in love with the colours and the athmosphere of the painting, so I gave it a try! 30x40 cm canvas.

The painting started as a white canvas, which was a fun experience to end up in such a deep, dark painting. The painting came out pretty well, I'm pretty happy with the fir trees too! Bill's firs are a bit different from Bob's firs, so I'm not used to them. I think the forested hills came out a tad steep, but it's still within realms of possibility for where I come from. I always have problems when I try to make the foothills, I can't seem to get nice thin lines with a fanbrush.

Overall I'm pleased with it!

Looks great! The light/dark contrast is striking, and I especially like the effect of the steep hills. (When a fan brush frustrates my foothills, I resort to touches with a knife edge, particularly for small canvases or when the trees are "far, far away.")

Thank you for the kind words and the tip, jlstutz98!

Very nice work.
