Family member requested something “modern”. Reminds me of one of those expensive paintings of nothing you see that you wonder if a kid could do it. My effort at that! Used some sneaky Bob techniques. Just some nice colors I threw on the canvas really.
Added a picture of a painting i just saw the news that sold for $50k.. looks just like mine!
Ok did a little googling.. firstly, didn’t meant to sound insulting when I said “a kid could do it”. I guess that’s abstract art and that’s the whole point! But now that I’m an expert I’d say I think his effort was to just mix the right colors/brush strokes to make nice painting.. yet the viewer would often see something more abstract. Intentional or not, clearly some people have it and some people don’t..! so it’s def true that not anyone can just “throw colors in a canvas” and expect it to be “art”. I guess? Thanks for responding. Learned something today :)
The art world baffles me at times. Reminds me how the experts laughed at Lowry, well they're not laughing now are they. I think we have to look at art with an open mind, like it or loathe it, if the creator believes its art, then its art. I still can't get my head around Tracy Emmins unmade bed though.
Often just that feeling of "not getting your head around" something can be the key to finding a connection. Since it's still on your mind there is probably something with that bed that resonates with you. What is it about the bed that gets you thinking?
I hear you Felix, that makes perfect sense, thank you.
Tessa, I can see loads of Bob technique going on in your painting. Great colours and blending. You have created something unique for your relative, I'm sure they will enjoy it.
I've started a new event inspired by this painting

What do you think when you take a look at Ed Clark's other paintings? Do you think there's a reason to it? Did he just throw colors on the canvas? What would make someone pay 50k for his paintings?
