For 20 years I walked past this tree almost every day and she always brought me great joy. I watched her grow and change through every season. When I left my family home never to return, I knew I would miss this gem of nature. As I walked by for the final time the tree was in full bloom with branches heavily laden and weighted down towards the ground. As I looked on, a gust of wind shook the branches and she gave up her load. Cherry blossom raining down all around creating a carpet of pink petals. It was as if she was saying goodbye in the only way she knew how, a sight I will always remember, an emotion I will never forget. . . . I tried to fill the brief although it is quite obvious what it is, I should explain that the black horizontal lines above and below the pink represents the notion that the layer of petals are fixed in place in my mind.
Thank you Felix for your kind comment.
Very solid
This is beautiful, something to hold on to and remember the tree for along time.
Thank you Rebecca.
Thank you Tanisha, I won't be forgetting it that's for sure.
Beautiful and meaningful. Awesome painting!
Thank you Steph. You wouldn't think someone could be that fond of a tree would you, but I really was. It holds a lot of great family memories too when growing up.
Super cool! The more I look, the more I (in my own winter season) am drawn to the subtle tones and texture of the lower panel, which reflect those of the spring/summer top panel but have become in some ways richer with age, experience, and stories to tell.
Thank you Jon. Very clever of you to notice that. I guess being abstract I could have left it flat green which was how it started out but I felt it needed some life in it, with an earthy appearance which gave it an unexpected history of its own. A happy accident that worked well. To build up the tones I used 3 shades of green overlapped and red mixed with green to make brown I mushed it altogether with cloth. I liked the effect and applied a small amount of of pink and white allowing the other colours to soak most of it up. Est voila!
There is also blue and black in there. It was all mixed directly on the canvas, not on the palette
