Forest pond at Dawn - Bill Alexander

Tom0779 16 Oct 2023

From the book ‚The Magic of Oil Painting IV‘.
I am currently taking a break from painting, so I will share some which I didn’t share yet. This is from last month and uses only very limited palette (white, red, crimson and Prussian blue). As other paintings done on black canvas this one has the focus on light spots.
Not a mainstream painting, but I hope you like it too.

It's just magical! Love the reddish highlights! Beautiful work Tom!

Thank you Sandy, I am glad you like it!

Like a magical forest in the moonlight. Super color combi👍🏼🇩🇪🇦🇹

Many thanks Dirk. Could also be moonlight you are right.

wow this is cool!

This is gorgeous! Love the colors in this!

Thank you Jessie, just cover a black canvas with alizarin crimson and in the middle third additionally with prussian blue. Then you can easily create this using mixtures of titanium white, alizarin crimson and prussian blue as well as adding any opaque red like cad red or the Ross bright red in some places.... Just in case you want to create a similar scene. This is how Bill and I created this.

Thank you Lc. As mentioned only 4 colors have been used.

BEAUTIFUL REFLECTIONS TOM!

Thanks a lot P!

This has a really cool vibe. I especially like the reflections. clear as a mirror!

Thanks Marc. Without using liquid clear, i.e. just covering the canvas with the base color (alizarin crimson and a touch of prussian blue in the middle third). This makes the paint less sliding and it stays basically where it was. So the reflections get more clear.
I almost never use clear for the black canvases.

Super Tom!

Thanks Brian!

Like it very much Tom, especially the reflections of the bushes.

Very hauntingly beautiful.

Very mystical Tom, love it 👍

I love this Tom. The background trees are only enough to see the. The eye cannot leave the red/pinks.

Thank you Jos. I said it above, if I only coat the canvas with color (no liquid clear) then the reflections become better.

Thank you Colin, glad you like it!

Many thanks Nivek!

Thank you Tomi. Yes that was the goal to put the focus in the middle. Those black canvases are ideal for paintings which should only show some light spots.

This is sublime Tom! The colors make the scene incredibly eye catching! Love your reflections. This one will sell fast if you decide to sell it!

Thanks Nancy, seems the reflections are very popular in this one. Not sure if this will be very popular to sell, but basically almost all are for sale ;)

Great reflection.

Thank You Daddio!

Thanks for sharing about liquid clear use on black canvases Tom. I need to try a black canvas with no liquid clear. I always use it on a black canvas. I always assumed that Bob would just forget to mention that he used it on his black canvases. Lol

Very nice! I love seeing some “new” paintings of Alexander from the books. Very nicely done :)

You are welcome Brian, I often do this on black canvases. I rarely use liquid clear.

Thanks Daniel, most of my recent paintings are done after Bills books from his first TV series 'the magic of oil painting'. Those episodes are only rarely available on YouTube, most times posted by private persons.

WOW Tom - I stared at this one for 5 minutes before commenting. Sooooooo good!

Thanks Tony, I am glad you like it.
