I am not a good animal painter, but I always want to try out new things. Those two paintings have been done after instructions by Bill Alexander. The Horses episode is available online as well whereas the episode 'Buffalo in Winter has been taken out of the book 'The magic of oil painting II'
The Horses painting is quite new. I finished it last week. Originally I had planned to add some stuff to the plain meadow. But to paint the horses was such a time costly work that I decided to not add anything more.
The Buffalo painting is from last Autumn. This was quite a funny painting to do. I like the addition of the building which gives a feeling of space to the whole scene.
I added bigger pictures of each painting as well.
Both are oils on canvas panel 12 x 16 in (30 x 40 cm)
Wow! They are both stunning. I love the simplicity and colors (the horses as well) of the 1st painting. Both are so peaceful to look at. Beautiful mountains. Those buffalos are awesome! You are an amazing artist Tom!

Awesome job on both! I also really love that buffalo one. Too bad it is not a video. I have watched that horse one that Bill does. He paints it plein air at a friend's ranch (i think). That's crazy! Horses don't stand still for portraits 🤣. you did very nicely on the horses. For those who have not seen that episode, they look very much like Bill's. A difficult subject.

Both great paintings Tom but if i had to pick a favourite i would lean more towards the buffalo.
