Lost Horizon - Bill Alexander

Tom0779 29 Jun 2026

Tutorial taken from the Book ‚The Art of Bill Alexander and Buck Paulson series 15‘.
I recently bought this book and that episode, which I wasn't able to find at Bill's YouTube Channel, caught immediately my attention.
It is painted on a black Canvas using 'Magic (Liquid) Clear'. I likes the idea of that stormy sky, the little houses in the background and the two small ponds in the foreground.
Currently we face around 40 degrees Celsius at the place I am living at, this makes it very hard to paint in my garage as the oil paintings are getting very thin in consistency because of the temperatures.
It is oils on canvas panel 50 x 70 cm.

The cabins you paint are really lovely.
In a typical year, Japan is much hotter than most European countries, but this year it hasn’t been that warm here. So I was surprised to hear that Europe is experiencing unusually high temperatures, and I truly hope the heat wave won’t last too long. At the same time, with major earthquakes occurring across Japan and a “super El Niño” expected this summer, I can’t help feeling anxious.

Beautiful work Tom ✌️

Very nice Tom, same temperature issue here in NL.

Fantastic painting Tom. My favorite part is the single white tree by the water. So cool!

Very nice, certainly has a certain feel to it... Interesting composition. I've also enjoyed looking at some older Bill Alexander books with guest artists for their different perspectives.

Love the sky.

Thank you everyone :)
