Mountains in winter - Bill Alexander

Tom0779 15 Sep 2023

New painting from today. My usual Friday after work painting. I am going further with the tutorials from Bill’s book ‚The magic of oil painting‘. I think I am half way through now.
I wanted to paint a winter scene today so I picked that one. Very good if you want to practice mountains.
I love the scraggly tree Bill suggested to put on the right side below the mountain. That tree indication gives the scene a mystery feeling in my opinion. Else it is a limited palette as usual for Bill and the result is a nice cold winter scene.

Awesomely done! Love everything about it, most especially those mountains! Have a great weekend Tom!

Thank you very much Brian! Have a great weekend too!

Super nice, Tom. The mountains are impressive 👍🏼🇩🇪🇦🇹

Very nice Tom, I think these are difficult to make (for me) without tutorial and above all, the motivation speech of Bill is mising!

Really fabulous! Those mountains are very majestic! Just love this one!

I came on today waiting to see what you’ve made, very well done. I did a version of Moonscape based on your painting, (not uploaded due to clumpy gesso) your work is very clean and you do Mr. Alexander a favor by recreating them.

Great work Tom.

The mountains are beautiful! So well done!!

This looks really relaxing spot. Looks like a great place to go swim! (In summer though)

Gorgeous Tom! I Love this scene! Your mountains look so real! The different shades of blue are superb. Did you use Prussian?

SPETACULAR TOM!!OUTSTANDING MTS MY FRIEND!

One of your best Tom.

Beautiful job Tom.

Thank you Dirk. Glad you like it!

Thank you Jos. To be honest I prefer painting after written instructions. They allow me to create much faster and I am not trying to make everything exactly like shown in a tutorial. This gives me much more freedom when I paint.

Thank you Sandy for your support as always.

Thank you Midnite. I really like Bill and I mentioned it somewhere, I try to paint all the landscapes (maybe some still lifes too) from his books. They will follow here.

Thank you Tomi!

Thanks Lc, took me some paintings to get the mountains look right but seems I have found the perfect way for me.

Thanks Jim.

Thank you Nancy. Yes I mainly use Prussian blue. I am not so much a fan of phtalo blue.

Thank you Pietro, I am also very happy with those mountains.

Many thanks Colin.

Thanks a lot Tony!
