This ended up being a series of 3 related paintings. This is #2 in the series: "Happy Valley II".
My main purpose when I started this one was more practice making fluffy clouds, more brown mountain practice (especially shadow side detail), and more mid groud space (hence the portrait orientation).
Another area of my paintings that I would like to improve is my mid level of the painting. I am happy with how this one came out and the rolling hills down to the valley below came out nice. I also like the foliage a lot in my mid ground. I think I sacrificed a lot of depth by putting the big tree in the middle. It covered up a lot of depth detail.
Overall, I am preftty happy with the way this turned out, but I see areas I need to improve in all phases of my journey. This is when I decided that I would paint a 3rd version of this painting.
16" x 20" canvas. As always, your comments (especially suggestions) are desired and welcome.
