Waterfall Practice (click on picture for better detailed pic)

1/29/2023 - Waterfall Practice (original)

One of the elements of painting that I am HORRIBLE at is waterfalls. Mine turn out barely recognizable and grotesque (I may have exaggerated a bit). I set out to reuse an old practice canvas or two and try to practice a few waterfalls.

The first attached pic is my attempts just to get the shape of the water correct along with the proper consistency of the paint and figuring out which brush I like.

On the 2nd attached picture, I reused an old practice canvas and tried to create a cascading waterfall. Well I'll be; it actually looks halfway decent to my eye.

Now on to the main picture. I prepped a 6" X 18" canvas board with a dark gray gesso and after it dried, I applied a THIN coat of liquid clear.

My idea here is to create a fantasy picture of a cascading waterfall with a plethora of colorful foliage surrounding the waterfalls.

I must say, the painting looks way better than the pictures indicate.

This was fun practice and I am glad I tried it :)

6" x 18" canvas board. Painting #79 in my awesomely fun Bob Ross experience. (fun fact: 29 of these are original compositions, the rest use mainly Bob Ross paintings as a starting point). Never created a painting in my life before Feb 1, 2022. I am really enjoying the journey.

As always, your comments and suggestions (especially suggestions) are welcome.

This came out beautiful! A great technique and it paid off! Well done!

These are so difficult, and of course Bob makes them look so easy. Practice is key…I need to do more of that. Way to go!

This is only 6x18?....it looks huge!

Really great practice painting.

Great format and ratio 1:3 to show the waterfall. It will nicely fit on a narrow wall at home which are difficult to decorate.

Wow!!!! I love It Tony!! It’s mesmerizing! I could look at it for hours.
