Well since Voy really inspired me to try an African landscape painting I'm starting with researching some tree shapes, just using black ink on paper and trying out different brushes. So far I think fanbrush works best for the leaves.... A few more tries and then it'll be time for black gesso and canvas 😁 Any tips and suggestions are welcome.
Umagaan, they are ALL excellent! You can use any of these for sure!
I also use the fanbrush for such trees, and also for adding highlights if desired.
You have the option to paint these in black gesso up front, but also you can paint them on top of your oils. For such trees, I always use the latter option since that gives me more freedom inside my painting.

Thanks all 😁 In the end I used no. 6 in one painting and no. 4 in another, no gesso, just improvisation. But all in all I just love painting trees 🌳🌳
