Original Creation

Ruins of a Remote Castle Outpost Under Moonlight

dracula 15 Sep 2024

A spooky, imagined composition to get me in the Halloween spirit (moreso than usual)!
This is 11"x14" on canvas-laminated panel and uses my homemade Maroger medium.

I like to think about who is in there and what they are doing by firelight. I can't imagine they are up to anything good.

Maybe some unlucky soul is getting a chiropractic adjustment. Nice scene ✌️

Love it

Very good.

I adore ruins, and this is brilliant. very convincing texture and depth on the castle.

Wow!! Amazing!

Moody and wicked cool. I especially like ragged edges of the castle and walls.

Extremely cool!

I love this so much. do you mind if I use it as a reference image for a painting ?

@LorPaints - Thank you so much, I really appreciate your enthusiasm for this painting! Yes, please feel free to use it for reference for your own work. I can't wait to see what you make!

@dracula Confession i started on it this morning. i wasn't sure what your game plan for your painting was, so I spent and hr, (after sketching yours) planning my painting. I tried for a mix of bobs style and some of the oil painting tips I've picked up online. I started with a black canvas and then a thin layer of liquid clean , crossed my fingers and went for it. I've done all I can for now, right up to near mud puddle. Once its dry I'll go back in.

@LorPaints - I'm not sure if it will help, but I uploaded a photo of the oil transfer I did on my panel before painting to roughly block in the shape of things. To do this, I put slightly thinned white(ish) oil paint on one side of a piece of paper, taped it into position on my panel with the paint side down, and then sketched on the dry side with a ball point pen. This transferred the lines, which I let dry for a week or so. Then I could paint using that reference in place on the canvas. If that doesn't make sense, let me know and I can go into more detail.

that makes a lot of sense actually,, i did something like that but i just free sketched with a light gray. Thanks so much for your advice
