This is my first commissioned pet portrait. A business associate was at my house as I was finishing the Yellow Labrador painting. He told me that his girlfriend's dog had just tragically been killed after getting out and running into the busy street just 2 days prior. He wanted to surprise her with a pet portrait of him. He had just one poor quality photo for reference, but of course I said yes. I can't wait to see her reaction. As Bob would say, "it makes the heart feel good".

Beautiful. Love the sheen you've created on the fur. It's so realistic. Adorable little face on it.
Thank you landscapepainter. I discovered a lot about shading and value with that black fur! I try hard to really capture the soulfulness of each animal I paint.
It must have felt like a great responsibility to get this right and you smashed it flippergirl. Actually I commented before I noticed you'd put up the original pic and I'd just like to say the likeness is astonishing.
Thank you again Landscapepainter for you very kind remarks! I am a harsh critic of my own work and I have been unsure about taking on commissions. Googly's owner came by last night to view the painting and her reaction was quite emotional. It was a very rewarding moment and I felt gracious to have created something that moved her so much.
