My Country Life - Window view of sunset

flippergirlpaints 04 Oct 2021

Inspired by the view from my front & side porch of the sunset. Attaching a few photos I have of those views. Although none of the pics are this colorful, I have seen close to this in reality. Oh, and I took Bob's idea from Woodman's retreat (S29 E13) to make the wood window frame which is painted on the wrapped edges as well.

First I taped off the window frame with painters tape. Second painted the gesso trees. Liquid clear over dried gesso and Indian yellow, Alizarin crimson and Phalo blue for sky. Next I removed the tape and painted the woodgrain (carefully, as the painting was still wet) by applying liquid clear to the "frame" and then the brown mix, working in the paint thinner to achieve the woodgrain. Whew!

Thanks a bunch everyone!

Really pretty and you barely exaggerated the views that you have in real life.

Thanks Tom - it was actually way easier than I anticipated and I was also pleasantly surprised!

Brian, thanks also! (I can not tell if you are being tongue-in-cheek, but LOL)

No I am serious. You have beautiful views and colors right outside your window.

I love this. The colours are glorious. Perhaps you could paint this scene in all 4 seasons? It would be stunning.

Really beautiful and very clever! Love this!

Thank you Sandy!

Thank you Barbara, and I was thinking about doing some different versions using different colors for the sky. Also maybe different styles of windows as well.

Different seasons would be nice too!
