flippergirlpaints 23 Jan 2023

A pet portrait of the mama wolfdog of our family's pack. She was my oldest son's dog and passed away last week 😥 She had a wonderful life including 3 litters of pups, and we have 1 from each.

It was so nice to paint another pet - I didn't realize it has been 7 months since my last one! Her special border was created similar to Bob's northern lights, first creating a black gesso border and letting dry. After applying a clear medium I used Pthalo blue and Pthalo green on the gesso and just liquid white in the middle. I did let the background dry before painting the portrait. There is a nice bluish undercast in some of the white areas that acts as a terrific base, so that worked out the way I had planned LOL.

Thank you Tommy! I wanted the border to be there but not be too distracting so I am glad my idea translated well.
