Original Creation

Sunrise at Marblehead

flippergirlpaints 27 Nov 2022

36 x 48 stretched canvas. This is my mother's Christmas gift. She looooves lighthouses and water scenes so I chose Marblehead lighthouse (lake Erie Ohio) because I know she has been to visit there. I definitely used artistic license on this one. The sky and water were from an image I found online (an Alexander Dzigurski painting) that I painted in reverse. It is more of an ocean color than Lake Erie, but I feel like I adapted it well enough to be believable. The lighthouse is from a photo (it was easy to find many photos of Marblehead lighthouse). Overall it took me 9 full days of painting (about 60-70 hours). It is a deep canvas so I have painted the edges as well. I absolutely enjoyed painting on this large size! I wish I could do more huge paintings.

Just so perfect Pam! Your mom will be delighted. It looks like a real picture. Great job!

Super and super-sized! Very pretty Pam! You must have a huge almighty easel.

Holy cow - I swear, I thought it was a reference photo when I first looked at this. INCREDIBLE!!

Beautiful!

Really gorgeous! Not like a painting at all more like a picture! Love all your details...so good.

Wow this is beautiful! I’m sure she will love it. That is one majestic lighthouse!

Thank you so much everyone!
And, Brian, I have a "regular" Bob Ross easel which I had to adapt to do this painting.

Lovely work Pam. Love the detail on the light house and the light through the waves.

I really appreciate your compliment, Charles. This is definitely in the top 5 of my favorite paintings I have ever done. Good thing it is hanging in my mother's house. So I can see it whenever I want!
