Original Creation

Woodland Evening

jlstutz98 25 Jan 2024

12" x 16" oil on canvas. This started as a practice session for making trees, especially to get more liner brush practice. Needless to say, it evolved. Started with grey gesso, then liquid clear. Could be my imagination, but the liquid clear seemed to help flow of the well-thinned oils on the bare trees.

Love the trees and the lay of the land very cool!

Very pretty I especially like the tree on the left. I actually agree with you about the liquid clear. I know that some people are afraid of it. Because it will give you a pretty violent reaction as Bob says with thinner. But I have been able to avoid that experience unless I want it to happen LO. L I do think liquid clear seems more slick ish than the liquid white.

Very nice composition. with a beautiful skyπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

Very good job

Thanks, all!

Great scene from you Jon! The colors are awesome! Those 2 foreground trees are gorgeous! This painting feels really good to look at!

A little bit of liquid clear goes a very long way on a canvas. Like Pam says, it is more slick than liquid white, but it also dries faster and gets sticky as it does. Make sure you lay your painting on a flat surface for the drying process. Nic & Ada warned us that the paint can slide down on the canvas and shift the whole composition's outcome. πŸ˜‰

Thanks, Nancy, glad you liked it! I have also noticed the tackiness as the liquid clear quickly dries. Thanks also for relaying the tip to lay the new paintings flat. I've used liquid clear on about 15 paintings so far (see, e.g., Golden Glow or Royal Majesty, posted earlier) without noticing any distortion or "slide" effect from vertical storage, but I've been careful to use only a tiny amount, and I've wiped my (inexpensive) canvases with a paper towel after application; a very thin film is still evident.

Very nice scene and beautiful trees!

Thank you, Jos!

Great job!

Thanks, Tom!
