Crashing Wave - PaintwithJosh

joha59 16 Mar 2026

This one is derived from one of his latest live sessions on YT. Josh used blue, purple and brown as background colors, I added some Pt. green because my purple always fades away. It is still very hard to get the right shapes, but Josh explains it very well (between all his 'rubbish talk' and the showing of his latest tattoo LOL). I did it on wallpaper of 30 x 40 cm.

This turned out lovely Jos. It pays to watch talented people working doesnt it, the way he smacks the foam on with the fan brush is brilliant, I'm still practicing that. He makes me laugh, he's so hyper. I discovered I can get a pleasing shape working left to right in this instance starting on the far left base of the foam, angled down and along baseline then up and over the eye, along the top of the wave and finishing on the right in one continuous movement to get a lovely flow. Then put the line in for the top of the cascade. The part I enjoy the most is shaping the rest of the wave with the big brush. The shape of your wave looks great and flows well. I'm proper jealous of your foam in this one.

Josh is so much fun; I’m working through one of his tutorials right now šŸ™‚ Your painting turned out beautifully! Awesome reflections, sand effect, wave crashes and splashes and sky!

Super gorgeous!

Thank you very much Helen (Josh is funny and indeed hyper, nothing wrong with being jealous haha). Kerri (curious whch one you are doing) and Sandy!

I like the moon and the glow around it, plus the beach water reflections
