Original Creation

After the Snowfall

lightsnow 17 Jan 2021

Painting # 79. It's been a mild winter here so far but yesterday we got our first heavy snowfall. 25cm of really heavy, wet snow fell down and covered everything in a thick blanket of white. After working outdoors half the day, I was inspired to try and create a painting depicting an 'after the snowfall' kind of scene. I decided last minute to create a vignette effect and try and create something really soft and simple. I used the half sized oval brush to create the snow hanging off the tree limbs. That has become my go-to for many different types of highlights. Overall, this took just around 2 hours and I used a very limited palette - only black, blue, and white with a touch of brown for the tree trunk. 18x24

Gorgeous scenery!
Such great depth created and that with such limited palette. GREAT painting!

Fantastic painting! Very winterly!

Love this, my kind of painting, very good. We also got some snow yesterday, about 5 cm ❄️😁

It's all great but I especially like the evergreen on the left!

So beautiful, your trees are lovely. I’ll have to work with the half round more.

Captures a calm fresh winter day! Very nice!

You guys are getting snow, and today it is 70F (20C) here. So jealous! You really captured the cold here, great job!

Thanks for the kind comments! Throughout the past 2 years on this painting adventure, I find myself entering and exiting various 'phases.' This is a fantastic site because I can look back at all my paintings chronologically and visually see the progress. I've recently started using different brushes and methods to make my evergreens and just the tips of the half inch round brush to make foliage. I find that in and of itself has me in that 'phase' now. I can see it manifesting itself in my past few paintings.
