Caribbean seascape

lightsnow 12 Sep 2020

Painting # 65. I had planned this one for a while as a birthday gift for my father. I painted a few seascapes before this one as practice attempts. For this painting, I purchased a higher quality, more expensive canvas. As soon as I started painting the sky, I could tell the difference immediately. I have the tendency to purchase cheaper value canvases and gesso'ing them myself, so it was nice to experience what a really quality canvas is like. I tried making big billowy clouds but I find they didn't come out like I had in mind. Too much grey. I decided to not mess with them too much as the focus was really the wave. Overall, this one was more difficult due to the oval. Not only did the contact paper refuse to stick, but it threw me off as to how much space I actually had left to paint a beach at the bottom. In the end, I think it came out okay. I am definitely going to take a break from painting seascapes now. It's time to get back to big mountains and trees! 18x24

This is absolutely gorgeous! I think you did a very good placement of the objects within the oval. Fantastic job! Palms, beach, wave, sky, everything is perfect.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I planned this one out for a long time. My father recently retired, having worked hard all his life, and he had finally begun travelling with my mother. They had found a spot down in the Caribbean they loved going to a few times a year, but now with the COVID travel ban, they are stuck at home. So, I thought I could bring a bit of the Caribbean to him since he can't travel for the time being. I hope he likes this one. I worked hard on it. Worth all the effort!

I hope that quarantine will be over and they will be able to travel again soon. I am sure this painting will be a wonderful reminder to stay strong and healthy. This is so full of love!

Very nice.. like the ovals but now I can ask you your advice...i can't seem to get my contact paper to stick... any advice? type or brand of paper? Trick? Lol... great job on your other paintings also...i have prob 50 paintings... bob was correct when said anyone can do it but forgot to tell us that he painted all those little side sheds on the barns to store ALL the paintings in.. lol
